Benefit “You Rebel”

Posted · 12 Comments

The latest tinted moisturiser in my ‘hunt’ for a new product (although, to be quite honest, it’s no longer a hunt; I’ve found so many good ones that I could stop searching right now!) is Benefit’s “You Rebel”. A product that’s kind of awkward to ask for at the counter:

“Good afternoon, dear, how can I help you?”

“You Rebel.”

or:

“Your skin looks amazing! Can I ask what you use?”

“You Rebel.”

You get the gist, anyway. It’s a weird name. But it’s good – I like it a lot. It only comes in one shade, although there’s another formula called “You Rebel Lite” (which is what you can shout at the desk-lamp if it fails to turn on). (Official Lame Joke Day). You Rebel Lite is even lighter (funny that) in consistency than the original, though I find the original to be plenty light enough – it glides on and is really moisturising. As per usual, take a look at my lovingly prepared audio-visual experience to see just how good this stuff looks.

You Rebel, £21.50 from Benefit Cosmetics.

Which tinted moisturiser is better, Benefit ‘You Rebel’ or Clinique ‘Moisture Sheer’ Tint?

I am having a real problem choosing between the two and would love to have suggestions!

    Thanks in advanced! xx

@Alissa the Clinique dries much more matte than the Benefit and you can get different shades, whereas Benefit is one shade and has a slightly dewier finish. Does that help? x

I tried this and while I loved the moisturising effect and the colour, after a few hours my eyes hurt like hell. It was all I could do to keep them open, they were so sore

oooh :( did my comment just get lost in cyberspace? xx

No, I have moderation (you wouldn’t believe some of the stuff I get sent through!) and I haven’t been at my desk for a few days! x x

ruth, i LOVE your tinted moisturiser series. i’d use them over foundation any day and its so nice to finally see some good reviews!

i actually own you rebel and you rebel lite and i’d just like to add that you rebel lite isn’t a lighter consistency… it is a lighter colour altogether. the you rebel original is suitable for nc25-30s upwards and the you rebel lite would be suitable for anything below. i find the finish quite dewy to be honest and it stings like a bitch when it gets in my eyes when i wash it off or accidentally rub my eyes…… but i love the smell and the spf and the glow that it gives me :)

Oh, great! Thanks for that; there you go then people! Lite is a lighter shade. I was blooming well misinformed by people who should have known better!

after all the tinted moistruizers you have tested, which one is your favourite? i’ve been using Laura Mercier’s (regular version) for years and love it. i’m about to buy a new one and am thinking of changing…. would love to know which one you liked best. What skin type do you have?
    love your blog…

I am normal/combination with a slight tan, and the one that I have used the most so far would probably be Jemma Kidd’s Pro tint! It feels very light and the coverage is great. All the ones that I’ve picked out to feature have been excellent though, otherwise they wouldn’t have made it onto video!
If you love the Laura Mercier then I see no need to change, it’s an excellent product. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it!

Ruth, completely off-topic, but what nail varnish are you wearing in the video? Your hands look beautiful with it on! x

Hi Ola and Lena, you won’t believe this: the nail polish is by MUA (Superdrug!) and is £1. It’s shade 4. You need about five thousand coats (4 if you’re not exaggerating!) but it’s a great colour. I’m doing an MUA video very soon!
