Sleep-Inducing Tea

dr-stuarts-tranquility-tea-20-bagsRecently I have been drinking a mug of Dr Stuart’s Tranquility Tea before bed and it has been sending me into the deepest, calmest sleep. I don’t think I have slept so well in years! I am already a great fan of Dr Stuart’s Detox Tea and so this new discovery has just secured Dr Stuart a permanent place in my tea cupboard. I’m not entirely sure whether or not it’s actually supposed to make you fall into a deep sleep, but so far this has been the (very welcomed!) effect.

Some people can’t bear the taste of herbal teas, and I used to be one of them. I have never drunk a cup of ‘real’ tea (or coffee, for that matter) in my entire life, and it was only five or six years ago that I first had a cup of peppermint tea. I found the idea of ‘infusions’ bizarre, but they had such a good effect on my digestive system – and my skin – that I soon found that I was drinking all sorts of herbal teas. Fennel, nettle, fresh mint, camomile – they all seemed to be very soothing and comforting. I can’t think of any bad points about herbal teas, really – they’re caffeine free (except green tea), calorie free, inexpensive and widely available.

I can’t promise that Dr Stuart’s Tranquility Tea will make you fall into a ridiculously deep sleep, but it’s worth a try if you find it hard to relax and unwind before bedtime. It has only been the last week or so that I have even drunk a herbal tea at night, but I think that the effects are now very clear. I even tried it on my (un)willing deputy tester last night and he fell into a deep sleep about ten seconds after saying “I’m not sure if it’s doing anything yet.” So far so good.

Models spend a huge amount of time travelling – arriving in strange countries at weird hours, taking night-flights, changing time-zones – and it’s nice to be able to take ‘a piece of home’ with you to regulate your life and create something of a bedtime routine. It really helps to keep your brain level and your spirits up, and it’s a darn sight kinder to the thighs and the hips than a nightly mug of hot chocolate with marshmallows!

If Dr Stuart could please now invent a tea called “Wake-Up Without Feeling Knackered”, that would be amazing.

Dr Stuart’s Tranquility Tea costs £1.97 for 20 individually sealed bags (handy!) from Waitrose.

  1. Sounds absolutely divine, something I’ll try out. Think of the possibilities, if it’s a really deep sleep, I could brew a cup for my sister, and while she’s in this tranquil state, I can draw on her face, tie her hair up, the possibilities are endless :)

Did you know that the Body Shop also sells a sleep inducing spray? It’s mostly aroma therapy and it’s supposed to also be relaxing.

Almonds supposedly help as well :)

  2. Thanks for this tip Ruth. I’m the same as you in that I’ve never drunk ‘real’ tea or coffee in my life either. I have terrible trouble sleeping so anything that could possibly help me unwind is worth a try in my book!
I look forward to trying this out, thanks again,

  3. Ooh lovely! I sometimes have the Pukka night time tea which smells horrid (like valerian- yuk) but tastes quite sweet and is really nice. Will def try this one i think! xx

  4. Ooh this definitely sounds like something i need to try, i’m a complete insomniac at the moment. The Purify one sounds interesting too as my skin’s having a bit of a meltdown! Just wondered though – do they taste horrendous?!

    • No, I love the taste! The Tranquility one is a bit like liquorice, I think! You get used to the taste of them I think. A bit like wine and olives!

  5. Do you know what? I think I’ll put on the kettle!

I can’t believe you’re reviewing tea :-D But I think I would read a review on sellotape if it was written by you.

  6. this is so funny because i was raving about the Skin Purify one to my friend just today. I dont have acne as a teen (touches wood) but when i get a spot its giant. So i’ve been having these teas (which my dad sells in his shop) and ive had it for 3 days and not only has the spot gone but my skin feels much brighter and healthy.

  7. I love herbal teas so I shall definitely try this out. I’ve never drunk a cup of normal tea either and only started drinking green tea when I was in Japan and it was the only thing on offer. I couldn’t imagine not drinking it now though. x

  8. i would also LOVE a cup of “Wake-Up Without Feeling Knackered” tea! =P

  9. I agree, I’ve been a fan of Dr.Stuart’s for awhile now! I’ll have to try this tea next, sounds quite promising after hectic day.

I thought you weren’t a coffee & tea drinker? I must be getting confused with someone else.

  10. They do amazing teas indeed! I haven’t tried this one but it sounds good, so far I have been best friends with some valerian drops from health aid and they do work! Thanks for the post x
