Chanel Illusion d’Ombre Mirifique

Chanel Illusion d'Ombre Mirifique Oh bonjour Chanel Illusion d’Ombre in ‘Mirifique’: you are tres tres amazing. You allow me to create the sexiest, poshest, coolest eye makeup known to the human race, and you allow me to do it in a matter of seconds. With just my fingertips.

Adding Mirifique to your eyelids is the cosmetic equivalent of wearing normal, everyday clothes and then suddenly slinging a £3,000 handbag over your shoulder. It’s instantly eye-catching, sultry, glamorous, festive – it ticks every box. The texture is mousse-like, bouncy, almost like jelly. It’s described officially as a powder-cream texture, but I don’t see it myself! It’s so much fun to use and very different to any other eyeshadow I own.

You have to work fast with Illusion d’Ombre because once it’s set, it doesn’t budge. I find that the easiest application method is to use the little brush that’s included with the shadow and apply all over the lid, up to the crease, and then very quickly smudge out the edges with my fingertips. Not one for people with butter fingers, though, especially if you’re using a dark shade like Mirifique – those who don’t do ‘dainty’ should perhaps use a brush!

The photo above shows my eyes (obviously) after one very hasty application. You’ll see a much better version soon when I record my festive makeup video, but hopefully you can see the wintery sparkles!  I love the reflective particles (can I use the word ‘glitter’ in the same sentence as ‘Chanel’?) that lift the shadow and make it multi-dimensional. It’s young and fresh without looking cheap and juvenile. Very, very nice indeed.

Mirifique is £22.50 from Selfridges online here (10% off until Sunday 27th with code SELF10): or from Debenhams here:

I’ve got this very shade for my birthday as a present ) A friend of mine was asking me if there are any substitute for a wish list’s presents she won’t be able to find and I told her – just go and buy that great Mirifique shade for me instead ))) And voila – now I am a happy owner of one. They are truly the kind you described!

I have Illusoire and Epatant and I love love them. I am not really the one to pull off strong eye look, so I cannot wear this all over my lid, but I was wondering if this is suitable as eyeliner??

@Thru yes, and it would last an absolute AGE as a liner, but I think that there are probably more convenient products that are made for lining purposes! x

Chanel should employ you in their PR department because I only got halfway through the second paragraph before I decided to buy it. As soon as the baby wakes from his nap we’re going for a walk to johnny Lou lou’s (hubby’s mum got me £100 in vouchers for my bday last week I was going to put it towards a winter coat or a new pair if boots but sod that! X

ohmygod, i’m so glad you did a post on this! Do you get loads of fall out when you use mirifique? When I use mean I get loads of fall out and it doesn’t blend properly either. It’s hard to pick up with a brush or my fingers and I feel the textures gone all goopy and sticky. I have two other illusion d’ombre too and they’re perfectly fine. I just slide my finger on them and i pick up loads of colour and they blend out perfectly as well! I am so so so annoyed that somethings wring with my mirifique because it’s my favourite one! I think I got a faulty product because it was kind of like that from day one but kept getting worse. To make matters worse I bought this at the airport at Edinburgh so I can’t even go return or exchange it! I wrote an email to Chanel yesterday,I hope they get back to me! I am so annoyed! I got this so I could do a smokey eye in 2 minutes but whenever I use it I just get so frustrated! Has this happened to anyone else!? Anyone know if Chanel has a customer service department in the uk? Couldn’t find it after searching for ages yesterday so emailed through the American sight! So annoyed!!

@B-a-B the Mirifique is definitely tackier in texture than the other shade I have (name escapes me, it’s silvery!) and it does dry quicker but I definitely don’t get fall out! It’s more of a cream shadow consistency? xx

  11. December 5, 2011 / 10:48 pm

Oh that makes me feel a bit better that it’s tackier than the other shades! However, mines still doesn’t blend well and gets major fallout, sigh! The email I wrote to Chanel USA got forwarded to someone in the UK, just waiting on a response now, let’s see what happens! x

i love these, they last so long and are shimmery, as opposed to glittery. I have two, the Illusoire shade and also the Ebloui which is a cranberry/brownish shade but it really does suit blue eyes, in fact it makes the colour really pop. X
