Burberry Model-Inspired Natural Makeup

Burberry Beauty Model

I’m back from LA – hurrah! I’m busy collating pictures and video so that I can tell you about my trip, so all of that will be coming to you very soon. In the meantime, I’ve just realised that I posted a very nice makeup video before jetting off, but I didn’t ever embed it into A Model Recommends! Naughty old me.

I was off to a commercial casting a couple of weeks ago and the casting director was asking for “Burberry-esque” girls (specific, much?). I thought that it was the perfect opportunity to crack out some of my Burberry Beauty products and give them a good going over! My absolute favourite product is the eyeshadow, I have been wearing it so much recently. I also love the face powders – blushes and bronzers in gorgeous, natural shades.

The look in the video is beautifully simple, I think. It’s a little edgier than the usual ‘natural’ makeup look – I have smoked the eyes really softly by buffing in eyeshadow around the lash lines. I haven’t used any eyeliner, so the eyes are defined but not closed-in. The foundation I’ve used is the new Chanel Perfection Lumiere in Beige 20 – I’ll review it separately as well, but this gives a gorgeous glowy finish without looking oily or shimmery. I love it!

This is quite an easy and quick makeup look to try if you’re in a rush and have a) limited time and/or b) limited makeup supplies. The basics are a good foundation, a beautiful eyeshadow and a pale-ish bronzer. You can just about get away with not wearing any colour on the lips, but it is nice to have some kind of sheen or reflection, just to make the lips look plump and healthy.

Here’s the vid! All of the product links are below it – you can click through for prices, stockists and available shades.

Ohhh! Lovely video, Ruth! I have to say that after watching you (gosh that sounds so stalkerish, but you know what I mean) for over a year, I think this look is your signature look! You always look so polished and gorgeous when you use light brown/taupes as eyeshadows :) I really hope you get this job though! As for the lipstick, EEK! I guess it wouldn’t be Burberry’s best selling shade then, it just looks like it’s one of those colours that is hard to pull off :/

Hi Ruth, this is completely off topic but figured it was easier to ask you at the most recent post. I went to Space NK to get some Nia24 products for the first time (esp the sunblock you rate so highly) but was told that they no longer sell it as its been discontinued now that Strivectin own the bran. The girl even said I should simply buy the Strivectin moisturiser that also has niacin. Any thoughts??

@Marie NOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!! That is terrible news! I shall look into it. No, the StriVectin is no substitute – it doesn’t have an SPF. xx

I was shocked too! i was really after the nia24 strenghtening complex because I get cystic acne and niacin is the only ingredient i haven’t tried yet (BHAs, AHAs, etc..) and i also wanted to get the sunblock you like for the summer. also check the space nk website, they don’t have any of the nia24 range!! x

Is there anything I can use to get rid of dark/light patches on my face? My face color is uneven. I use makeup to cover it up now.

I am a big fan of Burberry makeup, they are made for busy minimalist like me who is into natural looks. Your look is so pretty!

      Hi Kirsten,
I have 05 but it’s kind of on the dark side at the moment! It’ll be perfect when I have a little more colour…but it’s pretty warm! xx

Oh my, Ruth, I think I may have FINALLY found – after how many decades??? – the right foundation and color for me. I’m trying not to get overly excited…don’t want hopes dashed. The two Chanels I bought b/c of your recommendations, liquid as well as the cream in a compact, are simply GORGEOUS. (I so do NOT want to jinx myself!)

As one reader said, you’re costing me a bloody fortune (!) as I buy, buy, buy. (Must stop, stop, stop for a while, or at the very least slow down!) BUT everything is looking and working well, and I’ve almost come out of the dinosaur era and am almost caught up w/ the 21st century. Between this video and the glowing model skin, my face is starting to get where I want it to go.

At doctor’s appointment a few days ago, all the nurses and staff kept coming by my exam room to compliment me on my boots and how great my face looked, the word spreading that “ya gotta see it!” I thought I looked good (for me) but didn’t realize HOW good! (The Dior blush, the Chanel tan, the Esteé Lauder’s…list goes on and on over these last three months…) ALL thanks to you! Thanks ever so much. You’re a peach! xxx

    Hi RUTH,
You must have a tonne of make up and skin care products. Do you recieve alot of testers which the company gives you for you to review or do you recieved them beacause your in the modeling industry and be invited to skin care and make up events? Are you not scared to try new products incase it runined your skin or caused bad breakouts?

    • Ruth
      April 29, 2012 / 11:15 am

@Rachel yes, I have always been very lucky in that respect. Though it’s a mixed blessing, as the testers etc do tend to pile up and then I feel immense pressure to test everything and give feedback! And loads of things are just plain crap! xx
I have a basic routine that I stick to to prevent breakouts, I’ll post a video on it soon! xx

    Hello Ruth,

I came across your site when I was searching for Burberry eyeshadow reviews. Couldn’t help not to click on a website that’s called ‘a model recommends’! And I was not disappointed. I really like how professional the makeup tutorials are, and yet how simple it is to follow your method. Also, the blog posts are a good blend of personal opinion and professional advice for the readers. I will be following your site :)
