Bedside Beauty Snapshot: Paris, May 2012

Posted · 35 Comments

These were my most-used products when I went to Paris a couple of weeks ago. I thought that I might do a “bedside beauty” snapshot wherever I go, just for a bit of fun. (And what great fun this is! Right? Wooo!)

Here goes then. Left to right:

1) Pai Echium Eye Creamread the review here or find it on Pai’s website here. The most amazing eye cream for sensitive eyes, it’s a real travel staple for me.

2) Tom Ford Santal Blush – read my review here. Gorgeous, unusual, and haven’t “bumped into” a fellow wearer yet! http://tidd.ly/c0f09a03

3) Sisley Lip Balm. Great for flights, lipstick base, night-time nurturing: http://tidd.ly/f3de21cb

4) Omorovicza Thermal Cleansing Balm, part of a travel set. A GREAT cleanser and can be used all over the eyes too! Very luxurious. Normally I wouldn’t take it travelling as the pot is heavy, but this little mini version is a godsend! You can see the entire travel kit here:  http://tinyurl.com/c3lk2ck

5) Sisley Eye Mask – see it in my video review here. One of my absolute all-time favourite rescue remedies! Great for jet-lag, hangovers, general tiredness and also puffiness caused by hot weather: http://tidd.ly/be2acf44

6) Klorane Eye Makeup Remover – read my review here. This is a good ‘un! And inexpensive. (£5.15!) Great for tired, sore eyes – it isn’t the most powerful remover in the world, but it does the trick on everything but waterproof mascara. I bloody hate waterproof mascara, though, so it doesn’t matter to me! http://tidd.ly/ad620d61

7) Alpha-H Liquid Gold. Oh, Liquid Gold. I can’t say anymore than the name of this product because I haven’t stopped talking about it for the past year, and I’m scared of boring you all to death! If you want to read my copious reviews and mentions, you can see them by using the search box. The latest post about Liquid Gold (wondrous product of many wonders) is here.

  2. Yuliya says:

Hey Ruth))) do you know a good hydrating serum for combination skin???)

    • Ruth says:

Just trying the apivita hyaluronic one at the mo on my hols, that’s pretty nice! I’ll review it when back x

  3. Erin says:

Curious: can you pick top three-five favorites in each skincare area? Cleaner, toner, moisturizer, exfoliant, masks…

    Just curious, like I said.

    • Ruth says:

When I have a spare few hours – good idea! x

      • Erin says:

Seems like it might be rather difficult to figure out, but I’m starting to start a skin regimen from nothing and really want to know what you’d recommend. I literally own one cleanser and a sample of a moisturiser – I’m looking for guidance, which is why I’ve been frantically asking you a question every other day.

        • Ruth says:

It’s not possible for me to really recommend a regime to someone, only because it’s impossible for me to know what would suit you! What skin type do you have, how old are you, what budget do you have are all questions that I’d ask if I had the time to put together suggestions for people individually, but if you answer those to start with I’ll try and give you a hand! Try and have a look through all of the reviews on here too, though, and see what you like the look of! x

    Hi Ruth,

Just wanted to report back to let you know my skin has really settled down. I have a few marks from the horrible spots I got but generally my face is clear (no active breakouts, phew!) I just wanted to check if I am just using no other chemical exfoliants is every other night a good amount to be using liquid gold?

Thanks again for last week it’s so nice to be able to talk to someone and ask for advice.

    Take care

    Lucy

    • Ruth says:

Lucy it sounds like you are doing everything just right! I’m so glad it’s working for you! xxx

  5. rachel says:

    Hi Ruth
Could you use liquid gold and the clinquie anitoxidant mosturizer in your skin care routine . Say you put the clinquie on every two weeks and then inbetween the Liquid gold?

    • Ruth says:

Yes, there’s no need to use those separately. There’s nothing really that conflicts with the LG in the Clinique, so you could use the Clinique daily, in the morning, but don’t use the LG more than once every two nights! x

  6. lucy says:

    Hi Ruth,

just wanted to ask a question regarding liquid gold. I’ve been using it for a couple of weeks now and the first few uses my skin looked great but fast forward a week and I look like i’ve got cystic acne (not a usual for me). I have about 10 active breakouts that are painful. How normal is this? Did your skin purge when you first used it or should I take it as a hint that it does not agree with my skin? I am using it every other night at the moment? Is this too often?

    Help!

    Thanks in advance

    Lucy

    • Ruth says:

@Lucy I did get a couple of small breakouts, but nothing serious. Is your skin sore or really red? Maybe it’s too much for you! If it’s not sore then give it another week or so, if it feels irritated, then stop using! xx

      • lucy says:

        Hi Ruth,

no my skin is not red or sore at all, in fact my cheeks and most of my forehead look amazing, the skin is really refined and glowing and I can see the LG gold doing its job but my chin / around hair line area has quite a few painful spots. I wonder if sloghing away the dead skin has quickened up the purging process and therfore all the breakout comes at once. I’ll stick to it for another week like you said and will post back.

Thank you so much for your response I really appreciate it.

        Lucy xx

        • Ruth says:

No problem Lucy, do let me know how you get on! You can also tweet Alpha-H for advice if you like? xx

  7. Joana Richard says:

    Please Ruth help,

I have the two mask that you mensiona in the video and another for purifyng, all from sisley.

They are very expensive, and all have 12M expiration date after opening, i dont know if you use them before that, but i wont, can i use them after that?

    Love your blog
    Best regards
    Joana

    • Ruth says:

I have had mine open for much longer and they seem fine! x

      • Joana Richard says:

Thank you so much, its such a relieve…

Love them, but like you only use them in some occasions, and for that they will last much more than just one year.

        Joana

  8. Diana says:

Hi Ruth, I am looking for a hydrating daily moisturiser and interested in trying out some from Pai. Which do you think is preferable for combination skin out of the Chamomile & Rosehip Sensitive Skin Cream and Avocado & Jojoba Hydrating Day Cream?

Its winter where I live so I want something to be more nourishing than the seaweed mattifying one I use from the body shop. Thanks! x

  9. eloise says:

Hi ruth, i am struggling to find an everyday moisturiser for under makeup. one i can also wear at night if i wish. skin is oily and dehydrated. clogs easily. thanks x

    • Ruth says:

@Eloise have a look on Etat Pur (search in the search box for the review) they do some lovely lightweight non-clogging moisturisers! x

  10. Love in a mist says:

Lovely products, my two favourite things the Pai eye cream and the amazing Omorovicza balm, can’t live without this now lol!
Ruth have I missed the AMR exclusive email? Was it ment to go out on 1st June? I didn’t receive it :-( thanks xxxx

  11. Liea says:

I started using LG after reading your posts and I must say its the best thing ever. I have very problematic skin but it doesn’t irritate my skin but makes my skin clear and glowing. Thank u so much Ruth.:) Luv lya.

  12. Sophiabencks says:

Hi Ruth, quick question, how important IS eye cream? I get given samples but it always seems a step too many in my routine!

    • Ruth says:

I am obsessed with eye cream, so I suppose I’m slightly biased! I think it’s really important, but it has to be a GOOD eye cream. Some are just a face cream repackaged in a smaller pot and made more expensive per ml, but many are specifically formulated to treat the undereye area – thinner skin, different concerns. I think it’s very important indeed!

      • Sophiabencks says:

Thanks – I guess I should start thinking about using one as the skin is different and thinner… do you have any posts comparing different eye creams and what the different things are that they claim to do or that we should look for when buying one? x

        • Ruth says:

@Sophia yes, just type eye cream into the search box and any reviews that I’ve done should come up! xx

  13. Ali says:

Thanks for the Klorane tip. I’m looking for a good, inexpensive, non oily (this one is, isn’t it?) eye make up remover. I don’t use waterproof eye make up either so I don’t need anything heavy duty.

    Ali

  14. Jan says:

I always find posts like this interesting. I humm and hawww over AlphaH liquid gold, I bought the sensitive on eons ago and it was just a tad on the ouch side for me, however so many people rate it (La Hirons to name but one :) that I feel I need to revist. BTW saw you modelling the Liv range of clothing when I was trawling through the Dr.Hauschka website, they have a fab sale on at the moment.

  15. Simone G says:

Oh god I love liquid Gold, it’s the work of the gods!
