Date Night Makeup

A Model Recommends

Date Night Makeup! It was my wedding anniversary last Thursday (you can read my wedding dress post here) and I went to a lovely local Italian restaurant for dinner. With Mr AMR, obviously – it would have been rather weird if I had gone alone! Here’s the makeup look that I wore to go out – it’s quite a nice look for any occasion, really. Nothing too OTT or dramatic, but with nicely defined eyes and radiant skin. This is a good video if you’d like to see any of the following products in action: Lancome’s Teint Miracle, Urban Decay’s Naked 2 Palette, Chanel’s Bronzing Base, St Tropez’s Illuminator in “Gold”.

There are links to each product below the video pane, so have a look at those for pricing, shades, stockist and so on.. Feedback needed: how do you like the darker background in the video? Do you prefer it to the wallpaper? It makes it far easier to see the makeup, but I’d like to know what you think. Enjoy!

Lovely job! Can you tell us please, the Dr. Murad product you used as a primer? Thanks, and again, congrats on your anniversary!

Ah yes! That was the perfecting serum. I’ll add it in to the info xx

    Hi Ruth,
I think the lighting is too strong here, so I prefer the previous location:)

By the way, do you think the mac 134 is a good substitute for the chanel brush?

    • Ruth
      July 23, 2012 / 8:51 am

I don’t have that one Ayla, so I’m not sure! xx

  3. July 23, 2012 / 8:36 am

I love the look of the bronzer as a blusher. I dont often keep any products for myself but recently couldnt resist a Natio creme blush wheel with highlights and darker colours and I love it. Doubt I would ever go back to powder again.

What are your thoughts on the blending brush in the Naked 2 palette? I was just wondering why you don’t use that one.

    • Ruth
      July 23, 2012 / 4:10 pm

It’s OK…it’s actually pretty good, if I could find it! Probably explains why I didn’t use it! x

I’m not a big fan of that grey, palm tree wallpaper TBH so I prefer this one :)

Maybe you could do evening makeup videos like this and daytime makeup with the wallpaper. Ruth, working with the computer must take a toll on your eyes. How do you manage to keep them safe and bright? Just browsing everyday makes mine burn and look tired.

My eyes are shot to pieces, to be honest! I must do about fifty hours a week in front of the screen. ARGH! x

Ruth, what shade do you wear in the Origins concealer? I’m trying to differentiate between the ‘Light’ and ‘Light/Med’ but it’s incredibly difficult to tell from online swatches :-/ Thank you as always!

I like this lighting, but, favorite was the one you did on the leather couch back in the fall when you were showing off the Tom Ford cosmetics line (Lara Stone inspired). I hope you had a splendid anniversary !!!

Love the eyes Ruth. Natural but a little dramatic, just how I like my eyes.

Saw you on the pixiwoos earlier (chanel pop up shop) and you looked fab. I would love to see that look, it was a lovely day time look. Don’t tell me you had no make up on or I will cry.

HA! I shall have to remember what it was… I think it was pretty similar to date night makeup, just without liner? x

Hi Ruth! I have a little question that doesn’t have anything to do with the make up video, but is about your other videos. I noticed you removed a few videos from your YT channel like the Lavera favourites and favourite eyecreams. Will you be doing updated versions of these or are they gone forever? :( Xx

    • Ruth
      July 23, 2012 / 11:47 pm

Hey! They are gone, I’m afraid – there were copyright issues with music and now, frankly, they are a little outdated! x

  14. July 23, 2012 / 11:57 pm

Loved this look – very natural, undone sort of glam:)

Hope you had a lovely anniversary – I like to think you took Mr Bear along to dinner in his little harness:)

Hi Ruth. Lovely video! I’ve purchased the Alpha-H Balancing and am waiting for it now, but I’m curious as to what you’d recommend for a light morning cleanse. I’m thinking a cleansing water, but I’d also be open to a gel, or could I simply use the Alpha-H in the morning, as well? I’ve been using Cetaphil in the morning and I’ve noticed that afterwards my skin is very tight and dry – I couldn’t imagine why!

    Anyway, just wondering.

    • Ruth
      July 24, 2012 / 8:38 am

Yes, you could use that in the morning – I have been using it all the time, I love it so much! x

  16. July 24, 2012 / 12:04 am

This is such a pretty, subtle yet still sexy look. You’re right Ruth, it’s just a good all around look for anything! I really want to try the St. Tropez illuminator now too!

I was watching with the sound off learning from your technique, and genuinely thought you already had foundation on when you started your skin is so amazing! Thank you for the video, it’s a gorgeous look. :)

    Hi Ruth!

What is your most used/favorite Cleanser, Toner and Moisturizer? My dermatologist prescribed me accutane 20mg/day, it’s been two months and the half now but I really can’t see any improvement *sobs* I am sixteen and I have pigmented skin on my cheeks due to a reaction to benzoyl peroxide that burnt my skin I suppose :( on the other side, I also have a few active breakouts that have been sitting on my face for weeks and also small bumps that have been on my skin for years now. I’ve tried almost every advertised products that promises to clear your skin out in 2weeks, but neh, it just doesn’t work for me :( sorry to have you reading this long question but hey, do you have any reccomendations? :)

Btw I love how chubby Mr. Bear is right now *_*

And and it’s my first night using Liquid Gold, I hope this will help with the pigmentation and the blemishes xoxo

See how you get on with the Liquid Gold. I use the balancing cleanser before it. On days off, I use all sorts of moisturiser but if you wanted to stay “matching” you could use their essential moisturiser! xx
