Three Easy (but amazing) Makeup Looks!

I have made a Lancome makeup video using some of their latest eye products – the Hypnose Star mascara, which is an all-singing all-dancing lash-building lash-separating mascara, and the Liner Plume, a cool little felt-tip-pen-style eyeliner. (Could I have actually used any more hyphens in that sentence?) I spent quite a few weeks practising the looks that I was going to film, so I hope that you like them as much as I do – you can see from the snapshots on this page that they are all quite different!

The first look, called the “Betty Boop” look, shows how striking it can be just to have big, separated lashes against perfect skin. I love it! You’ll see that I get right down to the base of the lashes with the Hypnose Star mascara – it almost forms an eyeliner as it makes the lashes look deep and thick at the bottom. The lick of Liner Plume at the end creates a sexy flick – it was so easy to use, and I am usually rubbish with that type of eyeliner!

The second look takes the simple eye and makes it smokier and sexier. Be warned that it is messy using dark shadows, but if you wet the brush beforehand it gives you a little more control. (Thanks to my chum – and top makeup artist -Dina for that little helping hand!) The key is in the blending – blend blend blend! – but actually with the lashes looking amazing it’s quite hard to mess it up. You can always use Q-Tips (ear buds) soaked in makeup remover to re-shape and then blend out the hard lines again.

Look three is my classic daytime look. You know this one well, but I think you’ll like the shadows that I use. They are really natural but have a pearly quality that reflects the light and brightens the eyes. I shall be using them again in videos to come, I’m sure. The Perle Ambrée (see info) has gone straight into my daily makeup bag!

OK, enough of my chit-chat, have a look at the video. All of the products that I used are listed in order below the video pane, but if you have any questions then leave a comment!

With thanks to Lancome for sponsoring and providing products for my makeup video. I think this may have been my most challenging-yet-enjoyable makeup video yet! Let me know which is your favourite makeup look in the comments or come and say hello on Twitter:!/modelrecommends

Beautiful beautiful looks! I especially love #1 and 3–you look so fab with the precisely lined eye and gorgeous red lip. The last look is something more along the lines of what I would wear. Love the soft, neutral shadows and perfectly glowy skin!

Any make up look looks gorgeous when you’ve such perfect skin! I don’t think I’ve ever even met anyone with such skin as yours Ruth! :) I’m 28 and I’m having such a serious break out, for the past 2 months :( It’s really depressing, I was OK for the past 9 years and now bam! It’s back :( Makes me feel so bad about myself, the pimples are all around the chin and bottom half of face area. I must go see a doctor to get some hormonal tests done I think.

I just splurged inspired by this (looks one and three!) and am waiting a Lancome order now … Could you tell what earrings you’re wearing in the first look, carat etc. (I like that they are close to the ear and elegantly understated!)

They are Tiffany, not sure what carat as we’re a gift! X

Great – I’ve been looking at Tiffany settings, nice and close to the ear: so annoying that the Tiffany site doesn’t have modeling shots so you can see the earrings in action – perhaps you could do it ;o)

Hi Ruth, on look number 3 do u think I could do a similar look using the urban decay palette? I was thinking of using sin for the pinky color and buck for the chocolate matte? Do u suggest a different one from the ones in the palette? Thank u so much

    • Ruth
      August 1, 2012 / 12:40 pm

Yes, you could! I’ve used very neutral colours so just experiment until you get the right effect! Let me know what you use! X

So kind of you to reply, I ended up using sin for the pinky, sidecar for the pearly and buck for the chocolate matte and it looks quite nice. Not as lovely as urs of course because my colors were too glittery but I think they are good dupes since I already had the ud palette. Thank u so much for ur lovely ideas : )

Lancome is my favorite brand and I love the smoky eyes look as well as Betty Boop. I am wondering what the best lip color is to make your teeth look whiter. One friend says red while another claims neutral, such as light pink or beige, is better.
