My Perfect Summertime Look!

This is a lovely, natural look for late summer. Let’s not get bogged down with the heavy, russety autumnal colours just yet, eh? I’ll leave off for at least another week, so long as you don’t mind me being “behind the times”. Let’s say that I’m just being “fashionably late” instead. There’s still some summer left in the old girl yet, surely? The sun has been roaring away these last few days! (I bet it will start raining just as this publishes.)

Whilst we’re having a chit-chat, let me draw your attention to the picture below; the one in which my hair makes me look like Lemony Snicket.

That’s a still from the video below – but look how crispy clear it is! I filmed, for the first time, on my new Canon 650D. I haven’t yet bored you all to death with my camera saga, but I’ll do that in a separate post so that you can choose whether or not to read it! I’m still getting used to my new camera, so there might be a few blips in the video if you look very closely, but I can’t wait to really get my teeth into it! I’ve taken some brilliant video of the cat…

OK. Makeup. This video stars the Perfect Skin that everyone raves about – I do love it, but it IS only just a little bit more than a very good moisturiser. I’d use it for the moisturising part alone, it’s lovely, but it has an extra bonus surprise in that it gives a bit of sheeny bronze glow. A bit. You’ll see me apply it in the video – there’s no coverage, so it relies on skin being good to start with. It’s what I would call a “complexion enhancer”, but it’s not anywhere near to the coverage or colour given by something like the Omorovicza version.

Bronzer is the Clarins Duo – gorgeous. I use shade 3, but if you’re fair, shade 1 is a Godsend! You’ll see Dior’s “Wild” lip colour going on and also a little smokiness of the eye with 17’s Trio in “Enraged”. All of the links are below the video pane, if you want to take a closer look at the product info or find a worldwide stockist. Enjoy, have a cuppa, take a few minutes out:

  1. Good video,i like the content of your blog. Thanks for sharing…

  2. Ruth, your skin is so radiant, beautiful. Now when I am thinking about it, the Perfect skin look miracle might not
me the best product for me.However I need a good cleanser
for morning. I am using Pai and balancing one from Alpha H
but want something with a bit more “punch”.Something to wake me up but with extra benefits as well if you know what i mean.
Was looking at Elemis tri enzyme wash or Clarins energizing cleanser but would be happy if you could help, what works for you? Thanks x

  3. Ruth you looked absolutely stunning in this video, everything was just beautiful, makeup, lighting and your new camera does wonders in terms of clarity! Love your work, and congrats on finishing uni work! xx

  4. Hey Ruth, I wish I could be as confident as you with my gappy tooth :)

  5. I love the new camera! Great job of course, as always, but am impressed with the new “toy!”

Congrats on handing in all your papers. Brings back old memories. Do you need to through oral exams now too?

  6. The video looks great! Congrats on the new Canon!
I bought that gorgeous nail polish! Thanks for the recommendations!

  7. Wow, Ruth. You can really tell you are using a different camera. Everything in the shot really pops. All your research was defo worth it. Mxox

  8. Your skin is amazing and I’m not even going to start about the colour of your eyes #girlcrush #notastalker

  9. Ruth, do you know if there is any way to order Boots 17 products in the US? Every time you wear that shadow trio I think “I need that!” but can’t find a way to get it here stateside :/ Thanks!

  10. Really good images! I need a camera to photograph artwork (some paintings, some 3D) would you recommend this camera?

    • Yes, it’s amazing, but I’m not sure whether you need to spend this much if you don’t need the video element – I shall ask Mr AMR and do a post! xx

      • thank you so much for this – I would be very grateful for advice. I would probably use video a maximum of 2% of the time unless things change, but I do need something which picks up detail etc. so it can be blown up. I have spent weeks trawling photography forums but there’s no consensus! Mr AMR to the rescue?

  11. i really like this look. All the colours and everything, you look so fresh and radiant

  12. I just love, love, love this look Ruth! You look amazing :) Thanks for sharing! I do have this Lancome mascara, it’s wonderful :)

  13. Me again, the proverbial bad penny. I am finally going away on holiday – this is the long-awaited summer holiday. I am very pale and have developed a lovely grey cast to my skin (gah). Anyway, I am going to use a gradual tanner on my body for a tiny bit of colour. I have been flitting between the chanel soleil de tan or the This Works Skin Miracle (I would use it as a base and then put on some slightly paler foundation down the centre of my face on the problem areas). I have a feeling that the skin miracle might be better for me than chanel, being a blue-white skinned person?

    • Yes, it is a little less “warm” so I think it would work well. OR search for that Dior Nude skin glow, which has an apricot cast to it, then you would knock out the blue/grey tones? xxx

  14. yes apricot might be the thing … had missed the boat on the Dior Nude skin glow so perhaps that’s the thing. I like having a little bit of colour as my body will have a bit of a tan so This Works could also be the thing. I shall have a fun sunday hunting these down xx

  15. Dear Ruth, which nail polish have you used at Telegraph video?
it is such a beautiful nude! x thanks

  16. Ruth you look absolutely stunning in this video! This my favorite look.. you look so fresh and young! great job :)
