Sunday Tittle Tattle

Sunday Tittle Tattle (noun?): everything from the week that I have forgotten to post about, in easy brunch-sized chunks…

1) Yesterday I talked about zooming in on my HUGE Canon 650D image files – the photograph above shows a screen-grab of a file enlarged just a tiny-teeny bit. Look at the holes in my nose! I swear it’s like having some kind of computerised magnifying mirror – I could go in about ten times more than this! I’m absolutely obsessed. It makes me want to go and squeeze various parts of my face with my fingernails, but I shall resist.

(If Mr AMR knew I was using my DSLR camera/ridiculously expensive lenses primarily for examining my pores he’d have a fit. I haven’t even paid him back for the camera yet – I “borrowed” his card to pay for it, hohoho. Rookie error Mr AMR, rookie error.)

2) I just want to quickly talk about my hero product of the week – full review upcoming. It’s called Clear Prep FX and it’s made by Cover FX – I wrote about it many moons ago, but not in any great depth. Clear Prep is a foundation primer that also treats blemishes; it contains a nice amount of salicylic acid to help clean out the pores and reduce inflammation and it also provides a lovely smooth base for any makeup that you might want to follow up with. If you’ve ever sat there stressing about your spots, wanting to let your skin “breathe” but also needing to cover it up for appearance’s sake, then this is your kind of primer! Works away underneath your makeup to treat your spots. Can’t ask for much more than that from a primer, really! Clear Prep costs £39 (ouch, but absolutely worth it for me at the moment!) from House of Fraser

3) The winners of the NUDE Skincare ProGenius giveaway are: Hannah ([email protected]), Deborah Mercer, Mel Parkin, SophiaBencks and Helen ([email protected]). Well done you lovely lot – you should have had an email so please check your spam if you haven’t! And have you all entered my Youtube Vlog Channel giveaway? xxx

4) I popped into the Beauty Mart at Harvey Nichols on Friday and it was FAB! I expected it to be a lot larger, but in a way I’m glad that it’s not. It’s cute and very un-English. I felt as though I had entered a Tokyo boutique crossed with a French Pharmacie crossed with Sally’s on Shaftesbury Avenue. The girls at Beauty Mart were so passionate about beauty, it was something to behold. I stood there for ages nattering away about everything from hair curlers to adult acne! At one point, Emma Forbes popped over to join the conversation – she had stocked up on about five litres of Bioderma.

Make sure you stop by next time you’re in Knightsbridge – they have cherry-picked from some of the best brands, including the very niche, and at the moment they have a cabinet of curiosities displaying British Beauty Blogger‘s Chanel collection. It’s a very clever, funky beauty area that offsets the more formal feel of the ground floor beauty hall. KAWAII!

I got two STM lenses (video lenses): 40mm prime lens and 18-135mm. The standard kit lens with the camera is shockingly bad. x

Ugh! The standard lenses from Canon are always awful! Thanks! x

I don’t suppose you noticed how much the bioderma is at Beauty Mart. I’m planning to go when I’m in London in a couple of weeks and wondered if it was any less expensive than buying on ebay?

rookie error indeed… hahahaha! Ruth do/would you use the primer if you use bha/aha at night? or would that be an overload on the skin?

I’ve been using both and been fine – try separately and then proceed with caution! x

Hi Ruth and everybody! I’m new to the website but have been following AMR for a long time on YT. I will have to check out that primer you mentioned….open pores and blemishes being smothered with foundation sometimes just makes it worse for me so usually I just go around with a splotchy face because it feels healthier for my skin. Yikes. Oh btw your eyelashes look about ten miles long here! what is on them?

Hi Ruth…great post as always :). I am the same age then u, same skin, no wrinkles, clean, i don’t tend to break out…but what bothers me is that i get shiny during the day and my pores on my cheeks are visible…i just cannot deal with it, i would take any wrinkle around the eye but i don’t want pores…so ugly. do you have any suggestion as a moisturizer for this problem? i was thinking about dr. sebagh luminous glow, but its so expensive I’m afraid it won’t work! thanx so much…

You can’t really physically reduce them permanently, but you can try a good primer. The Clinique pore perfecting range is excellent (they also do a foundaiton in that range which is very good) and Benefit Porefessinal is extremely efficient and smoothing them over,, x

Hi Ruth firstly can I just say wow your skin! I’ve never seen skin that flawless so close up. Which takes me to my question I am having the mother of all breakout around my chin area. Iv been eating a lot healthier and stres levels are reduced although sleep is still an issue I feel I get a fair bit. Iv changed my routine to Am: Avene EGC/ and SPF and PM: Em hardie balm then followed with avene cleanance wash followed by la Roche posay soothing mosturiser and once or twice a week balance me radiance mask or clay mask. Was just wondering if u could reccomend a product to reduce scaring I am mostly make up free then I used a tinted mosturiser or light weight foundation I feel like am sensitive to all iv tried but have to use something to cover these awful scars. I recently read your post with Dr Murad Q&As which was helpful but I am relatively happy with my routine correct me if you think otherwise an I have combo/sensitive skin. Thanks

Same here, it has been a nightmare! All around the jaw area. I have been using 1% BHA from Paula’s Choice and the Clear Skin moisturiser from Alpha-H and it has been clearing them up a treat – could be worth a try, even every other night. Doing a post this week about it.. x

Ruth, from experience I know that breakouts around the chin area are hormones-related.Maybe that’s whats been happening to you lately?

    • RuthCrilly
      October 15, 2012 / 9:54 am

Yes, it is. They are on their way out now though – it was stress-related! x

I would definitely recommend the Murad Matte Skin Perfecting primer as an alternative to the Cover FX – about £10 cheaper as it is and is often reduced on BeautyBay x
