My Favourite Noise-Cancelling Earphones are on offer!

A Model Recommends Travel Gadgets

Slightly random post and I’m sorry for that, but I saw an offer on those Creative EP-630 earphones that I was banging on about in the summer. Do you remember the Apple Earphones rant session? I’ve spoken before about my hatred of background noise when I’m trying to work, read, or simply have a quiet train journey – my hugest, hugest bugbear is being able to hear other people’s music. It drives me insane. (If you want to hear me go on about it then have a read of my post here.)

I am on constant lookout for noise-cancelling headphones, but the high-end ones from Bose and Sennheiser and similar are quite chunky, not to mention the cost of them! Now you know that I am very willing to shell out good money for quality things that will last, but I have a habit of misplacing earphones (usually Mr AMR has “borrowed” them) and so I simply cannot justify the cost in this case. Some of the top noise-cancelling headphones are insanely good – I mean, I tried some at Heathrow recently that made me feel as though I had stepped into a soundproofed booth! I am considering investing in some for plane journeys so that I can edit film undisturbed…but then…they are an additional bulk to have to lug about with me.

I’m still absolutely sold on the original pair of earphones that I ever bought for noise-cancelling purposes. They do the job nicely and I’ve just ordered another three pairs (they are on offer, so I bought two pairs for me and one for Mr AMR who lost my previous two pairs… I told you I love them!). They sit comfortably in the ear and there’s no sound leakage. You can still hear bits and pieces in the background (they’re not like ear plugs!) but for the price, I think they’re outstanding. They used to be around £27, but then Amazon started selling them for £18. When I just logged on to buy a pair, the price was at £9.99! Hence the bulk buy.

I hope that the offer is still on, or I’m going to look like a right silly billy, but even if it’s not then I’d say that these are a splendid investment for regular travellers or commuters. If you want to look for them elsewhere then the model name is Creative EP-630 Noise Isolating Earphones. If you have other recommendations for ones that I should try, let me know in the comments. But no spam please, any tech brands reading, or my readers will GET YOU!

Oooh – I’ve just had an extra thought! In the absence of a men’s gift guide this year (no time, no time), these might make a cool little stocking filler. Kind of boring but incredibly useful!

Hmm… to be sure we’re on the same page. Are you actually listening to music with these?

Thanks for this- I’ve just bought a pair for my hubby. He has a very annoying habit of watching his ipad in bed and the apple earphones are useless – I can hear everything! Hoping these will give me a bit of peace! x

I have a cautionary tale about the good noise blocking earphone.

After being used to the Apple ones, but buying an incredibly good new pair that felt like my head was hermetically sealed; I was walking home one evening through a load of people spilled out of the pub on a lovely summer evening. I did what I had preempted would be a silent lady-fart and was none the wiser until I saw the faces of the people surrounding me. Horror!

Thanks Ruth I’ve had other creative headphones and loved them and these are a bargain. Plus you get £1 to spend on music in the MP3 store.

I have very acute hearing (a sensitivity) and so it was bliss when I bought these not too awfully long ago – because of your recommendation, of course! They truly are amazing. (Mine are a lime green that goes with my Kindle cover and so are easy to spot when I’ve inevitably lost them several times a day, both the earphones and the Kindle. Hubs better not touch mine! You’re quite generous w/ Mr. AMR, but please don’t tell him I said so! ;)

I hope the new apple headphones are better at directing sound. In my case, I don’t realy get annoyed by them. It’s more when people just don’t care and use the speakers in public places. Especially with the amound of electronica parents lug around to keep their young ones entertained. There’s nothing quite like sitting in a train next to a toddler using an iphone that makes a barnyard noice every other second.

also. I gave my husband a bulky pair of phillips citylife headphones. They’re quite retro looking and a bit of a statement. But they’re brilliant quality for listening to music as they realy seal in the sound. Also, they came free with his dutch esquire magazine subscription. A pair of bulky headphones isn’t a big issue for men I find as long as the take a bag. Men just don’t have that fault in their brain that makes them fill up every bag they use with junk. It’s very handy.

I used to buy the in-ear Creative like these, but the last two times I’ve bought the Klipsch Image S4. They provide the same (awesome!) noise cancelation, but with better sound quality I think.

Hi Ruth, they are £5 more expensive on this site but you can get them in 5 different colours! Including (my favourite colour) Pink! so if you were looking for some colour, i think these would be a lovely stocking filler! Also please go to the Birmingham Clothes Show Live on Tuesday 11th December, as i will be there and would love to meet you! <3

Well, as a musician I have a pair of in-ear monitors that I use all the time (Westones). They cost a pretty penny, but are just plain awesome for listening to music and live gigs. You won’t believe how good music on your iPhone can sound with the right earbuds.

I’d recommend trying Audio-Technica for a cheaper alternative and also Sennheisers are very good too. They don’t just cancel background noise, but also improve your overall music experience.
