Monthly Favourites – With My Mum!

Ruth Crilly Model and Christine Mum

A favourites video with a difference this month: say hello to my Mum! Some of you may know her already from her blog, My Mum Says – if you haven’t read it then do have a little look, I’ll pop the link underneath the video pane. My Mum is almost as obsessed with lovely beauty things as I am – she has quite similar tastes, too, though her skincare routine is obviously a little different. There are quite a few things in her makeup bag that I also use on a regular basis – the Omorovicza Complexion Enhancer is on both of our “can’t live without” lists – but there were a few surprises, including a Benefit eye palette that looked as though it had been manufactured in the 18th Century.

I have all of my fingers and toes crossed that the right video appears below; there’s been a massive Youtube glitch recently which has meant that all of my video screens have been playing the latest video upload, rather than the ones they are supposed to be playing! Very annoying, but let’s hope that they sort it out soon. If it’s not the right video, then you can view the correct one by clicking this link:

I should add, too, that I filmed, edited and uploaded this video from the iPad Mini that I got for my birthday from Mr AMR. It’s sometimes a little funny with how it adjusts to tiny changes in the light, but overall the quality is pretty good. Let me know what you think – obviously it’s more for emergency purposes, really, as I have my big Canon DSLR, but I think that it produces quite a clear sound and picture for such a tiny thing!

Right, here we go. Prepare to meet the Mother – all on your best behaviour, please!

Ruth, I adore this video. A-D-O-R-E. Please can you do a post on how you filmed the video using your I pad mini. Also, on your recommendation I bought the Liquid Gold and Liz Earle. Still waiting for it to arrive in the post. I’m going to order the scarf now from ASOS. I love it!

2 things. First, your mom is amazing! Second, a quick word on Effaclar Duo. I have been using the US version of Effaclar Duo for a month, and it’s amazing. I bought it on your recommendation, and I am so glad that I did! It has cleared up my mild to moderate acne, and I have not has as much post mark redness and hyper pigmentation. I use it once a day in the morning all over my face, and I follow with moisturizer and sunscreen. The directions on the tube actually recommend that you use it all over your face two to three times a day, but I think that would be overkill. (Night usage would interfere with my Liquid Gold, plus BP tends to stain pillowcases). Using it all over my face once a day hasn’t overdried my skin. However, I have noticed that my usually oily skin has been more combination skin after starting this. I don’t know whether that is because of the Effaclar or because we are going into winter. Nonetheless, I find that even though it contains BP in a high percentage, I don’t get any itchiness or flakiness that is usually associated with BP products. I love the US version of Effaclar Duo. I think it is a great skincare find.

Ruth, I don’t know who else to talk about this but after using Natures Gate Pure Vitamin E roll on for about a month straight or so all over my face before bed my boyfriend and I both (he did it as well) have developed a vitamin e (tocopherol, tocopherol acetate) allergy. We have had a rash on our face around our mouth and eyes (little red blisters, dry pieces, sometimes flat red spots that look like eczema) for over 3 months. We recently found out about a week and a half ago what it was that we were allergic to (we thought it was candida, eye mites, so ma
ny things we had thought of and researched about!) So I’ve stopped using my shampoo with it, soap, and wearing makeup which almost all makeup has it and it’s helped a little but I recently just started a job and I HAVE to wear makeup and I don’t know what to do because when I do wear it the breakout gets noticeable and I don’t want to live restricting what makeup I wear since I’m on my way to becoming a model. It’s easier for my boyfriend because he doesn’t have to wear makeup but right now I’m trying to find makeup options that don’t have tocopherol and it’s hard especially since I’ve invested so much money in products that DO have it in the ingredients. My question is have you heard of this before happening to anyone? I would just like to know what you think or if you have any advice.
I think since my boyfriend and I induced our allergy that we can get rid of it and not be allergic forever but I don’t know what to think.

Beautiful in every way, you two are comedy magic together, this made me laugh out loud, thank you! And as for genes, wow – I am sat here feeling bad for my poor daughter who has far too many of mine and they are frankly rather sub-standard! xx

I love your mum she is so funny! A while ago me and your mum had quite a few long chats (as you know I can talk for England! Lol) and she had me in stitches (She has the same warped, honest sense of humour as me) Say hello to your mum Ruth and apologie for me it has been too long since I chatted with her on her blog (naughty me but I had a lot going on and its only recently I have started talking on blogs again (as you well know I have only just started replying recently)) Must admit I want to try some of these things especially the Omorovicza but I must be good and use all my other items (she says) first! *cough cough* Lol xxx

Hi Ruth. I purchased the Omorovicza Complexion enhancer today on your mother’s recommendation. That and a whole set of SAAF Skincare (recommended on her blog). Her skin is better recommendation for these products than any airbrushed billboard advertisement.
