Tom Ford Lip Colour Shine Review

ruth crilly a model recommends beauty blog

This month’s most regularly used lip “things” have been the new Tom Ford Lip Colour Shines. There’s something about Tom Ford – everything he touches just seems to appeal to me. I’ve said this before – Tom and I have very similar tastes. He should probably hire me as some kind of muse, or consultant, or just to “guard” his beauty cupboard – I could wear my coat with the huge deep pockets. Lip Colour Shine: sexy, sleek packaging (as always) and a lip colour with a rich, cushiony texture and a sheer but somehow incredibly punchy tint. I’ve been wearing Nubile (an apt description of myself, hohoho) which is a darkish, rosy neutral…

…and the lip colours shown in the main photograph are called Chastity and FrolicFrolic is a marvellous easy-to-wear coral and I shall make sure that it goes into a video soon. Nubile has made it into my everyday “routine” simply because it’s so wearable and posh-looking. It’s a little darker than I’d usually go and so it makes me feel more grown-up, but I keep my eye makeup light and my base fresh and sheer and it all pans out OK in the end. What do you think?

Tom Ford’s Lip Colour Shines are £36 each – the same price as the more opaque lipsticks and very firmly at the priciest end of the cosmetics scale. If you wanted to buy into some Tom “Midas” Ford makeup then I’d go for the lipshine rather than the lipstick, only because (if you’re anything like me) you’ll use the shine on a more regular basis. There’s nothing worse than splashing out on a little self-treat lipstick only to find it two years later, used once, lid lost, half a dead fly stuck to the bullet. You could, of course, get a similar effect by sheering out the more opaque lipstick with a bit of balm – it’ll last a lot longer, too – but if you’re a no-faff, whip-out-an-impressive-piece-of-cosmeticry kind of lady then you’ll appreciate the all-in-one.

I’m always tempted by Tom Ford’s lipsticks but they’re such a splurge- especially when there are so many great, affordable formulas out there. Nubile looks great though!

      Splurge and a half! x

Funny thing, I’ve been eyeing these for a while, so glad you posted about them. Last month I got the TF true coral lipstick on a whim (after throrough internet research though) and am AMAZED by how great the texture and the colour is! Worth paying the extra I believe. Usually never wear anything other than pink (from pale to neon, have the Lancome and Chanel shiny lipsticks) but am in love with the true coral which isn’t orangey in the least. Plus it leaves behind a stain, so is very long-lasting. Think I will need to try out one of these new lip shines too….

Yes, the True Coral is actually the best shade I’ve tried – some aren’t so long-lasting x

These are adorable lipstick shades for spring. Bit pricey, but they look worth it! Thanks for the review :)

Oh wow, that coral is a stunning colour! I agree with you on the expensive-but-hardly-ever-use-it liptstick! Don’t see the point in spending that much on a lipstick which is hard to use and coordinate with my clothes, and years later I’ll just regret spending so much on a beauty product, but go so little out of it! Thanks for the review, Ruth :) xx

I bought one of the lipsticks a while ago and am definitely guilty of not using it often. However (and that’s a big one), I do take it out every so often to just open and close it. Just for the sound…it like a frigging Mercedes door. The click…amazing!

I tried on Frolic the other day and resisted buying it…you’ve just reminded me how much I liked it :)

Did you get Nubile from Selfridges Ruth? I can’t seem to see this shade online. I’m trying very hard to resist spending a ridiculous amount on a LIPSTICK of all things – but I’m SO tempted :(

I will be buying one of these, I don’t know when but it’s going to happen..very soon. I’d hope it would be a lip product I actually use up!

What mascara are you wearing here? Your lashes look really defined.

How does this compare to Dior Addict? Better? I’m thinking of getting a new sheer lipstick for the year (or at least, I’m trying)! Thanks in advance! x
