How to Cheat Healthy Glowing Skin!

perfect glowing foundation

A voiceover video for you because I can’t yet talk for more than two minutes without breaking out into the most unladylike, honking cough. It’s actually surprisingly difficult, when making videos, to get all of the different elements to come together without error; to get your words right at the same time as keeping the camera in focus at the same time you’re trying to blend foundation sans mirror. Having a cough is not ideal addition to the mix- neither is filming twenty minutes of video to find that you’ve got a THREAD hanging off your eyebrow.

Anyway, I thought you’d be interested to see my most recent foundation “routine” – using one brush to buff and blend a whole load of things together, creating a perfect, glowing base. Star of the show, for me, is the new Clinique “Even Better” foundation in a compact. I don’t usually like compact foundations so much, but this one is dreamy. You can really customise your coverage by building it up at the centre of the face and sheering it out towards the edges. I know that you can do this, theoretically, with any foundation but the texture of this one lends itself particularly well. (This foundation comes out next week.) I’ve used a Louise Young super foundation brush to buff it in and then my trusty old Chanel Bronzing Base to add colour and a bit of contour. Benefit’s Fine One One (see tomorrow’s post) and a touch of Lancome highlighting serum and there’s your healthy base.

Of course you could recreate this look with any of your own products, but I would say that the pearly pink eyeshadow from the Dr Hauschka trio is an absolute triumph – make sure you pay close attention to the way it catches the light. It’s just gorgeous! Very, very flattering, unlike many of the pinkish spring shades (see post on shadows that are like icing a mouldy cake here).

  1. Sorry to hear you’ve been ill Ruth. Hope you’re on the mend. I almost let out a little squeal when I saw the “Pai Anti Ageing Oil – coming soon”!!! Very exciting!! Looking forward to hearing more x

  2. Liza Hamilton-Smith

That horrible flu is all around the world! I had it 2 weeks ago and I was dying in Germany….Quick question: what are your thoughts on the Lancome Eclat Miracle vs Becca Pearl Highlighter?

  3. thanks for uploading still when you’re feeling rotten, i depend on you for all beauty related wisdom haha!

  4. Hi Ruth, i love this make up! And you look soooo preety in it! Your skin is very good also before make up, it has cleared beautifuly. How is your no-dairy regime going? Are you still following it?

    • No milk, still have cheese quite a bit and also lots of yoghurt. Seems to be just milk and cream that does it! x

  5. Love that nail polish. Reminds me of Easter eggs! :) Mxox

  6. how do you rate the urban decay concealer pencil among the under eye concealers you’ve tried? i’m in search of one that is natural looking (some under eye concealers are far too brightening in my opinion) and that doesn’t crease badly.

    hope you’re feeling better!

  7. good to know this info and i mustsay small but well written post.
    keep it up.

  8. Hi Ruth, i have dry acne prone skin, can you recommend which tinted moisturiser might help me with my skin type? thank you xx

  9. hi ruth, i love watching your vids to perk me up :)

can i ask your opinion on waterproof mascaras? i’ve trawled your website and can see you the above Guerlain Maxi Lash, also the Clarins Be Long and Dior Overcurl, but which is the best mascara for their waterproof properties? I wear contacts and have very small eyes so i always get a lot of transference into the crease.

    any suggestions welcome. many thanks

    • Ah, I don’t tend to wear them because i hate getting them off – I always end up pulling loads of lashes out! I really like those tubing style mascaras – they are great for stay, but you just remove with a warm flannel pressed on. Have a look at DJV Beautinizer here on the site. xx
