Some Wardrobe Essentials: My Fashion Accessories

A Model Recommends Fashion Style Video

This video is about my wardrobe essentials – coats, shoes, jewellery and good jeans. If you’ve followed me for a while then you’ve probably seen a lot of these things before, but I thought that it might be useful to recap on my favourite, most-used things. I’m going to be doing a huge wardrobe clearout soon and so I was taking stock of the things that I wear a lot and the items that I don’t wear at all – the dud purchases!

Actually, as life goes on I tend not to make so many mistakes with my clothes-buying, but I’m still a total sucker for a sale bargain. If it’s reduced from £1800 to £85 then it doesn’t matter whether it’s a crumpled bit of rag, I feel as though I have to have it. I’ve got better with this, though – see my shopping the sales tips post that I did a while back. The tips really do work! I was in Bicester Village the other day and I felt the old, familiar tingle of excitement at being able to grab a “bargain”, but then I realised that I would never have bought any of it full-price, and that’s really the test: is it actually nice, or is it just a nice price? Will you ever wear lime green McQueen cigarette pants, or do you just want to own a bit of high fashion at a smaller price?

krieger tennis bracelet

I’m lamenting the loss of my Krieger Tennis Bracelet (shown in the video). It was on loan for me to wear during London Fashion Week and the couriers came to pick it up a few days ago. I had got totally and utterly accustomed to seeing it flashing and sparkling away on my wrist – sad to see it go, but very lucky to have had it on loan so I mustn’t complain!

Anyway, I’m warbling on now – watch the video at the bottom of the page, or if you’re reading via email subscription, click the link here! There are some brief details about the items in the video jotted down below, but most things aren’t available now as they’re not brand new.

My cashmere trenchcoat is from Burberry, the leather jacket is Whistles. You can get the leather ballet pumps at Office:…
The nude shoes were LK Bennett and the boots are all from Belstaff, the bag is a Mulberry Daria, I think?!
Jewellery: diamond and platinum earrings and engagement ring are Tiffany, the wedding band is Kojis. The bracelet is on loan from Krieger, it’s called a tennis bracelet.
With thanks to PGI for arranging the loan of fantastic platinum jewellery for my events and videos this month, you’re truly spoiling me!

Once you’ve sorted the gems from the duds, Ruth, I think you should do a post about any recurring themes/ stats or any stories behind the dud purchases. I bet there would be some funny tales! I’m always fascinated by how one buys some things thinking they are the ultimate wardrobe panacea only to never wear them because of some small thing (an itchy seam) and then buy a slightly unusual thing you wear constantly for years. (I have this French bulldog jumper from Whistles which I bought thinking I was being silly/wasteful and I love it like no other and somehow it goes with everything. Ditto scarf I bought because I was out and cold. Ok, am sure YOUR stories would be more entertaining than mine ha ha. Thanks for the fab vid, Ruth. Mxox

I always find you look so pulled together, your style has clean lines, and I guess that’s what I would say my style preference is as well. Just add a few accessories and the basics can feel dressed up. Nothing like a great pair of boots and a fitted leather bomber! <3 :)

    Hi Ruth,

Great tips! Simplicity is completely my style… One thing – did you say what brand the watch is? Is it a Rolex, it has that classic look to it?

    Hi Ruth!

Maybe it is an unusual question but: did you ever get your boots arranged to better fit you calves?

My calves are really thin so ALL boots (except a few kid’s styles) are too large and make a sort o V on the outer part of my legs. I tried them with very thick and long socks, doesn’t solve/fill all the space. Imagine, buying a pair of Belstaff boots and having that V sticking out…what a shame! Do you know if luxury brands would provide that service to adjust the pipe of the boots to thin calves? And what about adapting it to the height for shorter women?

Hi Ruth, just found your site and LOVE IT. Thank you! I was wondering however, if you did do a follow up video about ‘investment pieces’? I’ve had a quick look but can’t find anything. Many thanks, Ava.
