Wardrobe Staples: The Draped Jersey Top

Another marvellous discovery, found through trial and error: the perfect drapey jersey top. This one has three-quarter length sleeves and an elasticated waist that the fabric drapes over the top of. It looks really chic with black trousers – I’ve been wearing mine with my Maje tuxedo-stripe ones – and quite cool with shorter-length skirts. Very sport luxe! I bought my top from French Connection – it’s the Misha 3/4 Sleeve Top shown here and it comes in seven different colours. Some of them cost £15 (bright pink, bright aqua) and the black one is £24. A great price, I think, for a classic wardrobe staple.

This type of top is incredibly useful to have around. The three quarter-length sleeves show off the most slender part of the arm whilst hiding the upper portion if you’re not so keen on showing that off. They also hang nicely from the bust and hide post-dinner tummies – and a top that allows for sudden expansion in that respect is always going to be a winner!

  1. what size is yours?

  2. Simple and elegant. :)

  3. What size do you wear?

  4. Hi Ruth! I have been looking for a top like this for ages!!! (Just ordered one!:)) Thank you so much for sharing your finds with us!! xxx

  5. Hi Ruth! Sadly, as a mum, these tops are I,practical, especially in public for the amount of picking up my toddler etc., but it looks so effortlessly glam. I would love to find more ‘glam’ clothes that don’t have bending over/ revealing chest issues. Turtlenecks can be repetitive!

  6. I’m bummed that I can never wear shirts that don’t have set in sleeves. This sort of cut looks silly if you have a sizable bust because it can’t drap the way it wants to.

  7. Elpida Papakosta

I like very much that kind of tops. very elegant.

  8. I got one in black and wore it for the first time today- I love it! Thanks for the recommendation.
