Summer Makeup and Miscellaneous Ramblings

Filming in my new office is not going well. Not at all. I can’t really talk to Mr AMR about this as when the office was being designed (it’s newly built and at the bottom of the garden) he asked me a million questions about whether such and such wall dimensions or such and such window placements would be good for my video making… Obviously I was quite heavily pregnant and couldn’t make decisions any more serious than “scotch egg or slice of quiche?” so I just said “yes, that will be fine” to everything and now I’m in a bit of a pickle.

For one thing, the office only gets direct sunlight at the very end of the day, and by then the sun is so low that it shines right through the windows (which are huge) and heats up the interior of the office to an unbearable temperature. At this point, the light is too “hot” to film in; it’s sort of sexy and sultry, but quite harsh and only good if you want to look as though you’re filming on the beach. For the rest of the time, it’s actually rather dark. In comparison to my usual filming place, in front of the floor-to-ceiling window next to our bedroom, it’s positively gloomy.

Oh well; I’ll get there with it. I just wanted to explain why this video has different lighting to usual. Once I’ve finished editing my crazy novel (don’t even ask, it’s a nightmare and it’s sapping all of my waking hours) I will get cracking on my video set-up. One of my goals this year was to completely revamp the look of my website and videos – I’ve been practising new layouts on my baby blog, The Uphill, and once I’m happy I’ll probably transfer that across to here as well.

God, what a ramble! You’d think it was the Sunday Tittle Tattle or something! Let’s get on with it, shall we? Easy Summer Makeup – or, more truthfully, Testing New Things. Just a load of new bits and pieces that I wanted to try out on my face mixed in with a couple of old favourites. Using the Estee Lauder Tinted Moisturiser before my foundation was somewhat unexpected – I should point out that I wouldn’t normally do that – but the rest of the look pleases me. You can find all of the products listed below the video screen if you want to take a closer look.

I am aware that this video posted on Youtube a couple of weeks ago; apologies. I had a rough version of this post in drafts and forgot to finish it off. Story of my life.

I have the same issue with our bedroom where I mostly work, maybe you can have diffused lighting in your room which you can switch on through out the day for ambient lighting and have white sheer curtains for when the sun is setting, this also creates a beautiful lit up ambience in the room. I hope this helps :). Btw love your blog and videos, for a person who is getting to know makeup, you are a great help!

Hi Ruth, does the Daywear give any coverage or is it just colour?

You really can´t make such decisions when pregnant. Or breastfeeding in the early months, for that matter. I hope you get it sorted out. Or just keep filming in the “cave”. I like it.

Hi Ruth, just thought I would mention that the pipette that comes with the Becca foundation is presumably to prevent contamination by the bacteria on one’s fingers, exactly as in a science lab. Also, for the problem with the heat and lighting in your office: have you considered cellular shades? They are brilliant for cutting down on heat and yet still allowing light to come through.

I will second the very sheer white curtains (not nets!). I have them on my west-facing floor-to-ceiling French doors and they diffuse the light whilst still keeping the room bright. I made mine but John Lewis sells some nice ones.

I am curious where your Alpha H fits in in relation to the Hylamide Glow? Is it wash, Hylamide, Alpha H or wash, Alpha H, Hylamide?

Wash, hylamide, moisturise – I don’t tend to use it alongside the Liquid Gold, it just doesn’t feel quite right! x
