The Pixi Double Cleanse

new pixi double cleanse skincare

I promised I’d tip you all off as soon as Caroline Hirons’ Pixi Double Cleanse hit the shelves: and then promptly forgot. I’m so sorry. But actually, I think that it kept selling out for the first week or so anyway, so you can now acquire one in a much more stately and dignified manner! No squabbling at the tills!

I’ve had a chance to give the Double Cleanse a really good go now and it has become an enjoyable (not to mention highly successful) part of my beauty routine. (Thank God, because Caroline is a good friend and it would have been hideously embarrassing had I hated it. I would have been pretty surprised, though, in all honesty, because she knows her skincare stuff inside out and would probably have rather forked her own eyeballs out than made a dud.)

So, Pixi Double Cleanse. In one side a very effective makeup-removing balm, in the other a sumptuous cream-with-benefits. The texture of the balm is similar to something like Clinique’s Take The Day Off, in case you need a reference, and though it is a joy to massage in, really oily and slippery, it manages to rinse off totally clean. No residue. Some people like an oily residue from their cleansing balm, I don’t.

The cream has a cool, not-quite-buttery-but-not-too-runny texture and is also good at makeup removal, but the point is that you remove your makeup with the balm and the cream does the clever talking. It cleanses off anything that might be remaining on the skin, but it does it gently, and it conditions as it works, with Aginine, Peptides and Vitamin C to plump, elasticise and protect.

More than you’d usually expect from your cleanser, that’s for sure. I tend to just “press” the cream cleanser off so that I’m not going in full-pelt with the flannel for a second (or third) time, and sometimes I leave the cream on for a few minutes as a kind of mini mask. Don’t know whether that’s advisable, but I do.

It’s a good one, the Double Cleanse, and I’d love to be able to buy the cream formula separately, maybe in a big pump-action bottle, just because I never use “paired” stuff up at the same rate! Caroline, make this happen! For the moment it’s available in one pot and it costs £24. They’ve started stocking it online at M&S Beauty, here.

I wonder how this will act with mild roseacea. Really want to try it but I’m too scared haha. I wonder if any other roseaceans have tried?

I’ve got mild rosacea and am.seeing my dermatologist in 2 weeks. I picked this up anyway. Not using anything other than laroche posay until she gives me the all clear. I.also have Perl oral and ocular dermatitis. Will try to remember to post what she says.

Yes, I have rosacea and I have tried. This. it is brilliant! So gentle and effective. Like Ruth, I am dying for each cleanser to be sold separately as well. I am particularly glad to have found this because LaRoche-Posay has reformulated the toleriane cleanser and it now includes niacinimide which makes me welty and red.

Hi, wondering how the first step compares to the Pixi nourishing cleansing balm or Elemis balm?

    • January 25, 2017 / 9:00 am

I think it’s slightly silkier in texture. But v similar – just a good, well put-together balm that rinses nice and clean. xx

  3. January 25, 2017 / 9:18 am

This is a really interesting concept! I really want to try a balm cleanser!

Thanks for the review, Ruth! I love me some Ms Hirons. So I would be keen to try these. But, I too, am not the biggest fan of paired products. If the cream cleanser is ever sold separately, I am there! (And I love the upside-down squeezey tubes like This Works Light Time Cleanse and Glow myself.)

The paired package would be great for traveling. I too prefer all products sold separately. Eye shadow palettes always have a few empty and some hardly used. They can be hard to remove to put in a custom palette.

I’ve not tried it yet but I can see the upside down tubes being a perfect way to either buy paired as double cleanse in a pot plus tube, and the option to buy seperates if you run out of one first. I really can’t wait to get my hands on this product though!

I bought this for two reasons, one it’s Caroline’s so it’s going to be good and two I thought it would be so handy when travelling. I love it, I do miss the lack of fragrance a tiny bit. But that’s it. And yes bring out the products separately too!

I bought this and it gives a super lovely cleanse – my only wish is that I’d like there to be more product in the tub….think it’s just 50ml of each? X

  7. January 25, 2017 / 11:35 am

I use it and I absolutely love it! I honestly don’t think my skin has ever been better and considering this is the only change i’ve made to my routine, i’m giving Double Cleanse full credit!

  8. January 25, 2017 / 11:47 am

This one is on my list of things I want to buy in my upcoming birthday month.

Does anyone know if it’s available in the USA? I can buy Pixi products at Target but so far, they don’t have the double cleanse.

Ruth, yes, yes to your suggestion to make the cleansing cream separately in a lovely pump dispenser! Please let Mrs. H know <3 These cleansers are brilliant, gentle and effective.

I eventually received mine but wouldn’t buy it from Pixi directly again, awful customer care.
I have only used it once due to the long delay in receiving mine but liked the texture of the balm and it didn’t leave my skin gasping and it didn’t take a lot of rubbing to remove the balm. I didn’t have any spf or makeup on but still wanted to use the cream which was lighter than I expected but was balanced after using the balm. I like the idea to leave this longer as a mask and will try this.

It is convenient and helpful if anyone struggles with double cleansing but I found the cream being thinner sticks to the lid and a bit was on the balm side, most likely the post not caring what was in the box. I would prefer a double tube as the sides aren’t far enough apart. It’s just me being very fussy other than that I am looking forward to trying it again especially if I have spf or light makeup to remove. I will know by the time I finish both pots if I would buy again but definitely not from Pixi Cosmetics
I was surprised to see it is made in Korea

Same here, took over two weeks to arrive, they don’t answer emails and when I called I was told “someone would call back” which never happened. When it did arrive, the cream side had a huge air bubble in and is 1/2 empty! Never buying direct from them again – if I didn’t love glow tonic so much I’d be saying that I wouldn’t buy from Pixi at all!

I was the exact same!!! I waited over 2 weeks, 1st email was ignored and 2nd got an answer saying it was high demand. I expected more considering for £4.50 postage .
But also I felt the cream side wasn’t full enough?

        Jeff never buy direct again!

I really like this as well, have been using it for a few weeks now. I definitely would love to be able to purchase the cream cleanser separately-I use it so much more.

Cannot wait to get this at my US Target when they finally get it. Does anyone know how the balm compares to Banila Clean It Zero?

  15. January 26, 2017 / 2:11 am

I love the concept, but do agree about having the two products separated – I think it would be much better. I really need to try something from Pixi, everyone always talks about their products!

I’d also love the second cream formula to be available separately. I’ve used it alone as a morning cleanse and I love it. Actually, I love the whole darn thing.
To other posters, I have mild rosacea and sensitive skin and have been using this for the past week and a half with no problems at all. In fact I have to admit my skin is better for having met this lovely cleanser. I’m very happy that Caroline left the fragrance out of this because that’s usually where I get reactions.

  17. January 26, 2017 / 10:18 am

I have just received mine even though I orded it on the day it hit the pixi website. But as you say the sales went through the roof (as told by the lady at pixi) suprise surprise.
It is the best product I have ever used and I love that you just have one container to take to the bathroom.
The oil dose indeed remove the makeup like a dream and the second cleanse is so soft and lovely on the skin and leaves the skin feeling so soft. This is my little pot of joy and I can never see me using anything else. Lets hope Caroline goes on to make even more skin care products in the future because this lady is a skin godess.
Love your blogs and vlogs. Best wishes for your new baby too, get some rest while you still can.

Question about both this balm and double cleanse in general (which, thanks to Lady Hirons, has fully changed my skin): can you use the second cleanse on damp skin? More generally, when you double cleanse if you want to use a balm/oil for both stages, do you fully dry your face in between? Or do you apply step 1 on dry skin and step 2 on damp skin??

  19. January 26, 2017 / 11:19 pm

I agree, Hirons, MAKE IT SO!

I purchased this in M&S Dublin at an awful exchange rate at €33 for a product costing £24. Despite this I’m dying to try it. I wasn’t crazy about the Pixi cleansing balm so I’m glad to hear that this balm is silkier.

It’s a lovely, lovely product both cleansers are really gentle on the skin and remove dirt/make up beautifully. I can see difference in my skin in just a week. But I do miss a bit of fragrance and also, I find the packaging annoying – the separator lid is hard to put on and I find it spreads the cream into the oil cleanser? Maybe because I am not that careful with lids (recently went to stay with friend who was horrified at how I leave lids off everything), but would be nicer if product came with balm in a little 50ml jar and cream cleanser in 100ml pump for us slap-dash people. Double jar thing better for travel-version. I’ll buy again as products are so nice but would really like a re-think on packaging.xx

I live in the U.S. and ordered mine through the Pixi website, along with a new giant bottle of Pixi Glow Tonic as I was running low. The box arrived in a timely fashion and these wonderful goodies were perfectly packaged inside. It’s been almost two weeks now that I’ve been using Double Cleanse every night, and my skin is in such great condition! I have slight rosacea and it the area often the most inflamed is now the best I have seen it in ages – barely noticeable at all. I think the fact that it’s fragrance free and feels so gentle on my skin sort of tricks me into thinking it’s not doing much…but the proof is in the pudding. My skin feels and looks better and better as I continue to use this. Loving it!
