What’s In My Makeup Bag? Summer 2017

summer makeup bag 2017

You must watch this What’s In My Makeup Bag video, if only to see my miraculous hair transformation in the last twenty seconds! In one frame I have quite an uninspiring ‘do – I’d just let my hair down from a mini-ponytail – and in the next, I have volume not dissimilar to that of Rachel from Friends. (See photo above.) I really should have left the interim footage in, because all did was rummage around heartily in my roots with my fingertips – nothing particularly skilful – but everything just seemed to fall into place.

Come to think of it, I did have almost half a can of dry shampoo in my hair and also a few bursts of Oribe Dry Texturising Spray, so no doubt that helped. Anyway, I’ve gone off-topic: the video is actually about the contents of my summer makeup bag. Products include a warm, reddish-toned eye palette, my favourite brown mascara, a couple of very wearable lipsticks and two foundation options for a very natural finish.

The final look isn’t actually that summery – I got distracted and started to do a smokey eye – but it’s a true representation of the makeup that I’ve been wearing for the past few months. As I said in the spring edition of this series of What’s In My Makeup Bag?, the seasonal reference is more for you to keep track of the videos rather than the promise of an appropriate “look” using new collections.

Your hair is fantastic. Also fun story- My post-pregnancy hair is falling out in clumps. I needed it shorter to manage loss, volume. I brought pic of your hair to dresser as inspiration. I got the haircut I always wanted… IN 1996. I GOT THE RACHEL

Oh no! This is my real fear! I am going tomorrow and I want to take Ruth’s picture with me. I had the Rachel when I was 15 and it was hands down the worst haircut I ever had…so worried.

Wow Ruth, your hair and makeup is beautiful and your skin looks amazing too. I really enjoy your What’s In My MakeUp Bag videos and I didn’t realise until I sat down to watch tonight, that this also included a “Get Ready with Me!”

You have won me over to nearly every product. Especially the foundation and the first bronzer. Going to check those out. It was nice to see how you apply all the items and how they show up on your skin. I have similar skin tone. Nice video… thank you !

I really enjoyed this makeup tutorial! Can you please do a video on how to use liner on the waterline? You made it look so easy. When I do it, I feel like I’m stretching my lower eye lid across my face. And then the liner won’t stay on! Ugh! And when you blended the liner with a brush, were you blending under your lashes?

Hi Ruth – how would you rate the Estee Double Wear Nude against Chanel Vitalumiere? Thats my staple and wondering whether to invest in the new Estee ….

Your hair looks amazing Ruth! I have an appointment tomorrow and am so tempted to go for the chop but fear I lack the styling time or know how to not come out looking like a mum frump! This is what I think it’s gonna look like in my head – what it’s going to look like in reality is a whole other ballgame!

Fabulous video, love the makeup look! Please definitely do a foundation review, especially comparing to other water-weight versions. Also I think I haven’t seen you this chirpy in ages….so happy to see it.
