My Love Returns…

It has been rather a slow start to the year, beauty-wise; I talked at length (ish) about burnouts and brain freeze last month, but I shall recap briefly for those who missed it. In very simple terms, I suppose that I reached my limit with juggling work and moving house and trying to look after two very small children. Understandable, when I look at it from a more detached perspective (one that’s had more than three hours of sleep per night) but at the time, I felt as though the whole world was falling down around me.

And usually, in times of stress or minor crisis, I turn to beauty as my salve; tinkering with glass bottles soothes my overactive mind, swiping on lipsticks helps me to relax and tune out of the more problematic aspects of modern life. But to my great surprise, I couldn’t even bear to open a new lipstick, let alone put it on – new skincare launches lay unopened in the drawer, exciting new-fangled hair things gathered dust upon the bathroom shelf. Not only did I lack the time to be passionate about beauty (or, to be fair, anything at all other than keeping people alive), I lacked all motivation. My beauty bus, usually so reliable and punctual, ground to a halt.

But then, a shining light at the end of the tunnel, because I started to get some actual real sleep and in the mornings I was able to pay proper attention to my face and now, a few weeks later, I’ve started to delve into my beauty stash and pull out some new things to play with. My love for beauty (and this is very appropriate, it being Valentine’s Day) returns.

So brace yourselves for a run of in-depth foundation reviews and lighter-hearted lipstick features; I’m currently in a passionate, week-long embrace with my Makeup Launches Bag (huge, leopard print, weighs around six kilos) and my beauty jotter pad is almost full. If you’re wondering which delights I have upon my face in the photographs here, then the list is below. Full write-ups to follow, but I must say that it’s so far so very good with the new Dior foundation…

Hooray hooray! Don’t get me wrong I’ve still enjoyed your mini mint magnum updates these last months but the odd lipstick review will also be enjoyed. Take it easy on yourself. Loving the very blonde locks recently too

Ruth, you look AMAZING here! I’m glad you’ve got your mojo back, I’ve certainly missed you and looking forward to your posts. I hope the sleep continues and you get chance to take care of yourself as you do for others. All the best and Happy Valentines…

If only all it took was a good night’s sleep for me to look like that! I’m glad you are finding your feet again. I missed your chatty reviews. Now listen here, you’ve done the babies/new house thing twice. Don’t be tempted to try it a third time or you might not come back out of the Rabbit Hole ever again!

Cannot wait to read your upcoming posts Ruth! As a mother of two little boys (3months and 2years),I completely identify with what you describe..the exhaustion and feeling utterly overwhelmed and having zero time to look at makeup (never mind try out new hair products, that would involve washing and/or styling of hair)! But I have to tell you,i adore your honesty and it is so refreshing to read your blog and follow your insta feed-thats why you are one of my absolute favourite bloggers-you represent real life. I hope your little ones continue to sleep well and offer you continued rest. And by the way,you look amazing in these photos! Happy Valentine’s xx

I was the exact same with my photography and music. Every creative desire went into hibernation (I also moved house and had very unsettled sleep due to sick children), then just recently, I have rekindled my passion to create, and that also conincided with sleeping better! So I totally relate to you. xxx

I mistook the pictures for an ahead of time Easter Special when you shared them on your Instagram, I simply didn´t realize it was Valentine´s Day. I knew it was coming, no escaping that, but somewhere between work and kids (no moving here) I forgot about it.
Anyway, I am looking forward to your rekindled love of beauty and all the blog posts it will bring us.

Beauty balms, The Uphill, house renovations, Mr Bear… whatever you write, it is always a joy to read Ruth!
PS Very glam photos, I thought it was a Valentines Day post!

Love the rabbit ears, very saucy! I’m in the doldrums myself because I’m going to be 50 at the end of March and menopausal symptoms are really biting hard. I too have lost my mojo and my usual interest in all things beauty. Hopefully some reviews of lovely new things from you will help reignite my beauty love. I’ve bought quite a few things on your recommendation over the years, not least Caudalie The Des Vines shower gel, which is a guaranteed smile in a bottle! X

I love your look. Keep posting when you feel like it but I can’t wait for your flurry of posts. This winter has been keeping me sick on and off and I get happy when I see a post or video from you. Like now, if you can’t tell.

I’m so glad to hear that you are feeling more yourself now, it is so easy to burnout and you have to be strong to get back up & keep going! Well done! Love the lipstick in this post, it is such a deep red – definitely need to add it to my collection!

Hi Ruth, I’ve been following your blog/videos for over a year now and finally decided to comment :) I pretty much binge-watched a lot of your vidoes/blogs and I really enjoy it so much, so I am happy to hear that you feel better and are back on track. Looking forward to all the new stuff! I love the way you write and your instagram stories, most of the time it feels like I can really relate to it.
Do you have any products of “The Ordinary” waiting to be tested any time soon?
Huge fan of Mr Bear by the way ;)

Ah, you can’t beat having some good quality shut-eye. I’m an insomniac so I’m feeling rather envious. Any ideas on how to cover eye bags? Or is a paper bag with eye holes cut into it easier? You look stunning by the way.

Lovely look , i also want to buy the same but probably in maroon colour.
