Me Talk Pretty One Day still makes me laugh out loud. When I was learning French in France and all the mixed nationalities were chatting in the break, we sounded just how he described. He’s a genius.
My kids have the Lexon flip travel clocks for holidays because until this year they have been too young for watches and taking the bloody gro clock everywhere was a pain, but I don't want them bothering me before 7am 🙈 they are awesome until a child sets an alarm for ridiculous o'clock "by accident" and flips them to ON... David Sedaris is one of the best laugh out loud authors, but with such understatement that comes through in all his interviews.
I too have bought a digital alarm. For the same reasons. Although for less money and it’s obvs not as cool. Which is probably a good thing as I’ve already managed to spill nail varnish remover on it. Don’t ask. The size thing made me laugh a lot though. We have the teeniest wrench in the world and also the biggest knife-sharpening steel in the world from online orders without reading dimensions.
Hooted at the radio alarm rousing you from sleep straight into Suggs! 😂 We were hardcore! I’m pretty sure I was upgraded to one with a cassette player at one point, so could at least select my musical entry point into abrupt consciousness … and that would be Five Star or Rick Astley 🙌🏻🙈
I haven’t read anything by David Sedaris but my mum was behind him in the queue in the post office in St Andrews, and had a conversation with him where I suspect she matched every odd comment of his with a slightly odder one of her own. She semi-recognised him but her friend Linda (also in the PO at the time - the beating heart of the town) beetled over to her after he’d left to fill her in.
Love David Sedaris too - I’ve been to see him a few times most recently in Edinburgh. He stays late into the night to speak to everyone/sign books too.

Yes! He was very understated live, too, he wasn’t as expected at all!
I have a Lexon alarm clock and I blooming love it! I'm sure the charge has lasted much longer than 6 month. Happy days!!

It was the one thing I didn’t check size on because I just assumed that all alarm clocks were a standard size! 🤣
