Pumpkin Lips and the Best Mascara for Fair Lashes…

makeup review chanel aw13

Only Chanel could make hallowe’en colours look chic! The murky, khaki greens of the nail and eye shades and the pale pumpkin Mystique lipstick… My absolute favourite item from the collection is the Khaki Bronze Le Volume de Chanel Mascara which is limited edition but hopefully permanent if Chanel open my three thousand emails I’ve written begging it to stay! I talk about it in my September favourites video and you can see it in action in my Autumnal Russety Eye video. It’s a very sumptuous, volumising mascara with a greenish-brown hue that is brilliant for blonde lashes.

I’ve tried to capture the shade in my close-up above – it’s very unusual and you’d never really think it would work for a mascara colour, would you? But work it does. Perhaps not on darker lashes – I can imagine it might look a bit dusty – but for the fairer-lashed, it’s brilliant. Lots of volume, lots of definition but without the harshness of a jet-black mascara or the wishy-washiness of a brown one. (What is it about brown mascaras? They are always so weedy!)

The Volume de Chanel in all its glory – look at those lashes! I’m also sporting the eye quad, though you can’t see it in this picture, really, and the wondrous pumpkin-hued Mystique Rouge Coco lipstick. I’d say that the mascara and the Rouge Coco lipstick are definitely my hero picks from the collection – you can find the lipstick here at Selfridges and the mascara here. Usual Chanel prices – £24 each.
