Sunday Tittle Tattle

imats social media talk 2013

1) Sorry this Sunday Tittle Tattle is late (a day late if you’re reading on the Daily Fix!) but I was out at IMATS yesterday for much longer than I thought I’d be. IMATS, for those who may not know, is a makeup artistry trade show held in Kensington Olympia. I hosted a social media talk as Sam and Nic from Pixiwoo couldn’t make it down; it was brilliant fun and my guests (Anna from Vivianna Does Makeup, Caroline Hirons and Louise Sprinkle of Glitter) were amazing. Thanks so much to everyone who came to hear our chat! There might be some video footage available, so I’ll pop that up if I can get hold of it.

2) I said I’d try and keep you updated with my latest good reads and so here’s another. I’ve been reading loads lately because I’m doing everything and anything other than what I’m supposed to be doing. Many of you will have heard of this chap before: C.J.Sansom. He writes (amongst other things) the Shardlake series – murder mysteries set in the tudor times. Pretty much my idea of the perfect novel! Shardlake is a lawyer working under Thomas Cromwell (Henry VIII’s “main man”) and I’m writing my MA dissertation on Thomas Cromwell (in Wolf Hall), so the series is very topical for me. It’s almost research. Honestly. Anyway, I’ve just finished Dissolution, but Mr AMR promises me that the second one, Dark Fire is even better. If you’re looking for some gritty holiday reads with a historical twist then start with these! You can find the Shardlake series on Amazon here.

3) Makers of a few of my all-time favourite products, Omorovicza, have a 15% off code running throughout June. If you’re looking to stock up on the best ever face spritz (Queen of Hungary Mist) or the most ridiculously powerful deep-cleansing mask (see my review here) then use the code JUNE15 at checkout.

4) I had the most amazing “Sleep Retreat” session at The Sanctuary Spa in Covent Garden. I’d never visited The Sanctuary before – what a gem! A whole maze of treatment rooms and pools and nooks to relax in, all tucked away behind the tiny Floral Street shopfront! And right next to where I get my hair done at Trevor Sorbie, too – perhaps I should start giving myself a pamper day every eight weeks when I get my colour fixed..  Anyway: Sleep Retreat. It’s a guided meditation session in a very dark room that has a row of vibrating beds in it. (Before you get any odd ideas, they don’t vibrate in that kind of way, it’s like a low-level hum that helps you to relax!) The sleep retreat area was accessed from the centre of a Koi Carp Pool – not something you see every day in Central London! Unless you work at The Sanctuary, I suppose…

I haven’t ever done anything remotely like meditation before, and I was surprised at how fantastic it felt just to switch off and think about nothing. I didn’t fall asleep, but I felt very calm and positive and de-stressed – all from a twenty-five minute session. As soon as I got home that evening, I downloaded three meditation apps for my iPhone – I’ll test them out and let you know how I get on. Zzzzz.
