So helpful, thanks for sharing your experience. I am 46 and have been thinking it's probably time i get a mammogram.

It was so interesting to me to watch yours! My breasts are really small so they kind of have to trap my chest a bit too which is weird and there’s a lot of repositioning to actually get the right bits in the right place. But as you say, it doesn’t hurt. Just a bit uncomfortable and a weird thing to be doing. Good for you for sharing. You should be a public service broadcaster…

Yes, that sounds far more "pinchy". I suppose no mammogram will be particularly comfortable, each will be different!

My first mammo was done by a man. Talk about an uncomfortable situation. It was the only one that hurt. It wasn't his fault. It was in the very early stages of mammography.

A really helpful video, Ruth. I’d been repeatedly told they were very painful and found myself having to have one early and was terrified. I found it barely hurt me at all. The tricky bit was contorting myself into the required position for the machine! I’m totally with you on examining my own breasts being terrifying - I have to really psych myself up for it. Thought it was just me xx

No, maybe it’s a more common feeling with people than we realise!

Thanks for this article Ruth 👏 - I think it will allay a lot of women’s fear or concerns. I had mine done recently and yes, it’s a wee bit uncomfortable during the time it takes the radiographer to put your boob in place and take a photo, but I’d rather do this than be faced with my worst nightmare of cancer. X

Yes, exactly. Thank you Karen. X

That’s fantastic thankyou so much for this. I’ve got my first one on Friday and was feeling a bit apprehensive but now I’m not.

Glad to have helped.

Yes! Fine in a clinic. Worrying at home! Great that you did this - thank you.

They are not nurses but specially trained mammogram technicians.

This is a great idea Ruth. I do get my mammograms done and always have, it's so important. But for people who may be apprehensive, or even frightened, your film and your nice calm voiceover look and sound so reassuring. Great respect to you.

I kind of admire the way the nurses just lob ones boobs onto the plate - they’ve done it so many times - it makes it feel very er, normal. Great video and such a good idea.

Lobbing boobs, name of my next band.
