You have beautiful flawless skin Ruth (normally). The perks of living in the UK and not South Africa 🌞. I have sun damage from my childhood as I am meticulous too. Anyway, I also break out in spots in extreme heat and humidity, from suncream esp if it is water resistant. Thank you for your informative post, now I at last know the difference btw a mineral and chemical suncream. Ps people who think suncream is bad for one, must not talk to me!
It is so wrong. We have lost two friends to skin cancer recently, one in her forties another in his fifties. Beef Tallow doesn’t cut it. Wear Sunscreen! 🎵
Thanks Ruth, this is so interesting! I use the same spf 50 all year round, as I’ve found one that doesn’t break me out, but I have noticed that any time I go on holiday, I seem to get very spotty. I’ve always thought that my skin just hates the sun (or the overthinker’s stress I get around holidays) 🙈 I’ll try a mineral spf next time to see if that makes a difference! xx
I get sunscreen stinging my eyes when it’s hot. Not cheap but I’m signed up to libertys beauty drop. So I use that credit when they have offers to buy more expensive items. Anyway the point I’m getting to is I bought Emma Lewisham sunceutical spf50 mineral face. I love it. It has a tint to it. The pot pumps out the amount you need. It’s also refillable. It’s on offer £43.20 at the moment .
Thank you for a common sense + actually doable routine in response to a skin flare up! I have a tendency to panic, throw all my skincare products in the air and start an entirely new regime at the sign of an eczema or spotty flare 🙈
And I snort laughed at your description of the difference between chemical and mineral sunscreens. I’ve got less and less tolerant in my old age of people who talk pseudoscience about sunscreens and I won’t tolerate them anymore. (See also people who use the Yuka app and anyone who thinks the Reef Safe scheme is legit.)
I live in Australia and only ever use mineral sunscreen, I have tested them all and the one I couldn't live without is Synergy uber zinc, no white cast, it's also a moisturiser ,I have very sensitive skin and I've never had a problem , it sits under make up beautifully
This is the best explanation of what a BHA actually does that I've ever read. I know there's a couple of different acids, but I've never known what they do/are for - this is hugely helpful. I bought the Yepoda but I find it just too shiny (veering on greasy looking) for me.
Most topical, thank you! I also seem to break out in the heat despite scrupulously cleansing morning and night. Any suggestions for matte SPF (face or body) would be appreciated as I hate how shiny and sweaty they make me look
Geek & Gorgeous do an excellent matte face SPF - their Zero Feel Sunscreen. It's about £11 & is a 75 ml tube. It absorbs quickly and leaves no greasiness or shine behind.
On the Tacha site, you get 15% off when you subscribe plus spend £80 and get free 15ml sunscreen. In case that helps anyone.

Yes it’s a real problem now, the sunscreen disinformation thing. Crikey. Skin cancer is no joke.

Yes this is a lovely one, will be in my mineral spf round up when I do it!

Oh I know, so much misleading stuff out there!

Yes it’s a fine line between glow and sweaty shine! And thank you re the BHA explanation, I always worry my sciencey descriptions don’t make sense!
The beauty of jeosan suncream is so beautiful
Hurrah 🙌 lovely to hear people love it 🥰 Excited for you to try it Ruth x
I bought that to test a month ago, but then the face crisis happened to put it on hold!
The OG and the best! Well priced also.

Thanks - this looks v. promising!
Thank you x
On it x
Sweating under sunscreen for an extended period isn't a great result, is it?
It’s marvellous! 🤣
Do you still retinol in the summer? I don't but not sure if that's an over reaction...
Yes I do, though to note I only ever use it in the evenings (alternate ones) and I am meticulous with my spf! X
Great post as always thanks Ruth. Where did you get your gorgeous necklace and earrings you look fabulous all glammed up with your glowing skin ✨️ 😍 💛
And thank you!
Necklace is Tilly Sveeas and earrings are Loel! X
